A Struggle We All Face
The fear of failure often keeps us from moving forward. The human mind tends to choose comfort and familiarity rather than risk. We sit back and criticize those who try something new — yet when their risks succeed, we celebrate them.
Learning from Edison
Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, is one of the clearest examples. History records that Edison failed nearly 10,000 times before his experiment succeeded. When asked about his failures, he replied, “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Today, we celebrate him not for avoiding failure, but for persevering through it.
What the Bible Says About the Fear of Failure
In the Bible, Daniel’s life also appeared full of setbacks. He did not choose exile; he was forced into it when Babylon conquered Jerusalem. He was mocked when he refused the royal food offered to him. He was thrown into the lions’ den simply for keeping his prayer routine. At every stage, it looked as if failure would define him. Yet, each trial became a testimony. Daniel emerged victorious because his faith remained unshaken.
Encouraging Others Who Try
When we reject or mock people for failing, we repeat the mistake of those who doubted Edison and dismissed Daniel. Instead, we are called to encourage and strengthen those who dare to take new steps in life, even if they stumble along the way.
Faith Over Fear
We, too, must rise above the fear of failure. The Bible reminds us:
- “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
- “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23)
When we trust in a big God, failure does not have the final word. With even mustard-seed faith, mountains can move.
Conclusion: Step Forward Boldly
Failure is not the end; it is often the doorway to testimony. Let us step forward without fear, encouraging others along the way, and trusting that the Lord is with us. Amen.
